Our most recent litter (whelped April 5, 2010), out of our very own Champion Brutus x Marinka, is leaving the nest.  We wanted to remember this spectacular litter by getting them photographed with a professional.  Luckily, I found my good friend Tressie from high school.  Please visit Tressie Davis Photography to view her awesome work.  She is located in Chelsea, Michigan.

We are most pleased with the results:

We have put in years of research regarding the Portuguese Water Dog.  I have devoured pedigrees, breed type, disease inheritance, and watched lines to see what is being produced.  I breed to better the next generation and the breed as a whole.  I only breed a litter when I am interested in keeping something for myself to show/keep in my breeding program.

Much planning goes into our litters here at Sweet Water Seas.  Our dogs are current on their vaccinations, on heart worm preventative, and tested negative for Brucellosis.  Our dogs are fed a high quality kibble for optimum health.  Genetic health testing is completed on our brood bitches prior to breeding. Most of our PWDS have been trained for the show ring and have attended basic obedience classes. We understand that socialization is key to a well behaved, even tempered adult.

After all this planning, we hope to be blessed with a beautiful healthy litter.  Puppies are raised in our home. They are socialized from day one with gentle children and other dogs.  They are accustomed to household noises such as vacuum cleaners, tv, video games/cartoons, sounds from the kitchen, lawn mowers, etc..  They are introduced to many different surfaces before going home (wood floors, carpet, concrete, grass...).  They get outside play time, trips in the car, and met many people before they come home to you.  It is your duty to pick up where we've left off to make a well socialized and adjusted adult Portuguese Water Dog.  Puppy kindergarten and basic obedience classes are must haves since this breed is so highly intelligent, they often learn how to manipulate their owners without the owner realizing it!

Puppy packets come home with each puppy including (and not limited to) certified pedigree, health record, color photos of parents, parents health clearances, signed contract, AKC papers, and numerous training tips.

Our commitment to our SWSeas puppies does not end once you pick up your puppy.  We expect you to keep in touch with us to let us know how you are doing.  SWSeas Portuguese Water Dogs offers lifetime support to our puppy buyers.

Sweet Water Seas is always striving to create a better generation than before.  Taking in careful consideration for breed type, temperament, and health.  We look forward to the generations to come!

Please note all puppies are sold on contracts - either pet (spay/neuter) or show.  SWSeas has the right to refuse the sale of any puppy to those, who may not have the best interest of the dog at heart.

Tips for Puppy Owners:

NEVER leave puppy unattended.  Always beware when it's too quiet!!

PWD Puppies will think of children as their equal not as someone they have to mind. All interaction must be supervised by an adult.

Bitter Apple™ spray may save your coffee table legs, edges of rugs, etc. while puppy is teething.

Buy Kongs™, Tuff toys, and busy toys (by Premier toys) to keep this intelligent breed busy and entertained. And it also satisfies their need to chew.

Chewing is natural for puppies. It helps set the teeth into their jaw-line. This may take 2 years so be patient!

Attend puppy socialization classes AND basic obedience classes as a minimum. The kindest thing you can do is train your dog to become a good canine citizen.

All dogs are den animals and will seek out their own special spot to sleep/rest. Crates are a useful tool in keeping puppy safe while you are out or asleep. Crates also aid in house training/potty training process.
