Hi, I'm Angie Robinson; breeder of Sweet Water Sea Portuguese Water Dogs.  An avid animal/nature lover my entire life, I always had a pet - whether it was domestic or wild.  Some included "Mary" the painted turtle, a tame Robin who visited me daily that I named "Marilyn", way too many stray cats that I fed anything I thought my Mom wouldn't miss from the 'fridge, tadpoles every spring, toads kept in terrariums, spiders kept in jars (and yes, I hunted bugs for them all), a hermit crab, tropical fish... you get the picture. But none have been as special to me as dogs.  I have always considered dogs to be a blessing in my life.  There is just something very charming about these creatures. I grew up with a miniature brown poodle, "Petey", who was my constant side-kick.  (maybe that's why brown PWDS are so endearing to me?)

Our family began looking into *hypoallergenic dog breeds when our 3 children began asking us daily for a dog.  I have asthma and pet dander allergies as well as two of my sons.  That search led us to the Portuguese Water Dog as being in the top three choices for people with allergies.  We met a few breeders and were intrigued with the unique water dog.

*Hypoallergenic -- no dog is truly hypoallergenic.  Different dog breeds may produce less dander making them more allergy friendly.  Weekly baths and grooming will keep the coat more free of dander and outdoor pollens.  However, some people will never be able to tolerate dog salvia.  It is best to see an allergist specialist and do some visits with breeders to test your tolerance.

In 2002, we got our first PWD and life hasn't been the same since! (understatement!)  Though, this male puppy was bought as a pet, his beautiful movement made me decide to give dog showing a try. After having him evaluated by his breeder and deemed show quality,  I began handling classes. And learned how to groom both show cuts and was able to finish him owner handled.  We earned three 4 point majors and two Best of Breeds along the way as well. Jake taught us plenty about the demanding personality of the water dog. But I credit him for always "bringing it" in the show ring.  His firecracker persona got him noticed!  From then on, I have been hooked to handle my dogs myself.

In 2005, I whelped and raised my first Portuguese Water Dog litter out of Champion Gayle Wind's Sea Titan Jacob and Canadian Champion Windward's Shez Quite a Girl. We choose Sweet Water Seas as our kennel name as the Great Lakes that surround Michigan are referred as the sweet water seas. We have shortened our name to SWSeas to allow for more creative registered names.

In 2006, I attended my first PWDCA National Specialty.  My puppy Brutus came in 1 st place in the 9 - 12 month puppy Sweepstakes. Sire, Jake, showed his heart out in the Best of breed ring. I also was a volunteer to the event and ran the Silent Auction.  We volunteered again and ran the Silent Auction in 2009 and it was a huge success; raising over $7500 for the club. We also were "crowd control" for the Canine Good Citizen/ Therapy dog testing and helped out wherever we could. This time, Brutus showed his heart out in the Best of Breed ring. See some photos of the Best of Breed Ring here: 2009 National Specialty Photos.

Now after a few litters under our belts, we have puppy owners training in pet therapy, conformation, the R.E.A.D program, water-work, and obedience. And let us not forget the much loved family companions.  We wish them the best of luck on their journey with this endearing breed and offer all our support and encouragement.

At right, SWSeas Lake Superior's Breeze CD, RA, NJP, aka "Skipper" (a Marinka son).  Now titled in obedience and agility.  He is also training in water-work.  Many thanks to his owner, Mary, for listening to me when I told her he showed signs of becoming a great agility dog from a very young age.

In addition to my hobby of purebred dogs, I also own a home printing business, Robinson's Advertising Specialty Products, LLC.  We specialize in team uniforms (baseball, softball, football, basketball, etc), fund-raiser items, coolers, ink pens, license plates and much more.  I am always especially happy to help out with the sport of showing dogs and have been busy as of late making lanyards, window and vehicle decals, tee-shirts and hoodies for some National Specialties.

Last, but not least! I am "MOM" to three wonderful kids. My children have been involved in every aspect of my PWDS. To them, I am very grateful for all their help.  I am truly blessed to have such gentle hearted souls.  They make me happy everyday!  What a joy is it to watch them grow up.  I am often told what great people they are, and it makes me very proud of them.
